Products for the
Mining Industry
In mining – both underground and in open-cast operations – equipment is exposed to extreme conditions: highly abrasive dust, constant moisture, mechanical impact and high-frequency vibration, extreme pressures and severe temperature fluctuations. WEICON products are specifically developed to withstand these harsh conditions. They perform reliably where abrasive materials, temperature fluctuations and mechanical impact place heavy demands on materials and connections. In maintenance and new installations involving heavy-duty machinery, they help ensure reliable operation: stabilising joints, protecting sealing points against pressure, chemicals and micro-movements and extending the service life of components even under the most demanding continuous loads.
WEICON products are designed to perform reliably under the toughest mining conditions – whether in heavily loaded conveying systems, crushing and screening plants operating in dusty environments, highly stressed conveyor belts, pumps and valves exposed to pressure and cavitation or exposed peripheral equipment.
Our high-performance epoxy compounds from the Epoxy Solutions range, adhesives, technical sprays and sealing and assembly pastes provide reliable performance and high process reliability.
They also help ensure efficient, predictable maintenance intervals, even in the most demanding mining environments.

Wear protection in conveying and material handling areas
with WEICON HP (primer), WEICON WPN, WEICON WPG-19, WEICON Ceramic BL and WEICON Ceramic HC 220
Heavy abrasion caused by fine dust and granular bulk material leads to rapid wear and unplanned downtime in chutes, hoppers and transfer channels. With a cold-applied wear protection system, repairs in the mining industry can be carried out quickly and without dismantling the equipment. After coarse sandblasting, Bristle Blaster treatment or grinding, the surface is properly prepared for coating application. On difficult substrates and in areas subject to vibration, WEICON HP is used as a primer. WEICON WPN is then applied at a thickness of 3–5 mm, while WEICON WPG-19 is used for layer thicknesses of 20 mm and above. On low-friction substrates, an additional layer of WEICON Ceramic BL or WEICON Ceramic HC 220 improves the sliding properties. Subsequent thorough compression ensures the material achieves its full performance. The coating reliably protects against abrasion and impact, extends service life and reduces downtime costs. The repair is simple, quick and can be refurbished whenever wear occurs. This makes it ideal for bulk material handling, processing and raw material extraction in open-cast and underground mining operations.
Coating of a transfer chute at a cement plant
with WEICON Fast Cleaner, WEICON WL (primer) and WEICON WPN
Heavy abrasion caused by cement clinker and fine dust leads to rapid wear on chutes and increased downtime at the cement plant. After cleaning and degreasing with WEICON Fast Cleaner, the surface is roughened and primed with a thin layer of WEICON WL to ensure good adhesion. WEICON WPN is then applied evenly using a spatula. Curing time is reduced to around 48 hours using heaters and a heating blanket. The wear-resistant coating reliably protects the base material, extends service life and reduces downtime costs. It is ideal for abrasive material handling in the mining and cement industries. As it is cold-applied, durable and cost-effective, it is perfect for transfer chutes, hoppers and linings.
Coating of an industrial wastewater channel at a quartz plant
with WEICON Cleaner Spray S, WEICON Ceramic BL and WEICON Ceramic HC 220
Quartz suspensions and fine abrasive particles continuously attack wastewater channels, causing corrosion and premature wear in mining and processing operations. To create a durable, wear-resistant surface, the channel sections are first thoroughly cleaned with WEICON Cleaner Spray S. WEICON Ceramic BL is then worked into the edges and applied evenly using a spray system. After each spray application, the nozzle is cleaned with WEICON Cleaner S to prevent the spray channels from becoming clogged. Finally, a top coat of WEICON Ceramic HC 220 provides additional resistance to abrasion and chemical media. The ceramic-filled coating reliably protects the base material, extends service life and reduces downtime costs. It is ideal for abrasive media and process water: wear protection in mining, ceramic coating, coating wastewater channels, extending service life, repairs without dismantling.
Bonding of wheel tyres and a gear wheel at a gravel plant
with WEICON Surface Cleaner and WEICONLOCK AN 306-38
High load cycles and vibrations affect wheel tyre and gear connections in gravel plants. Play, fretting and premature wear can occur without a reliable shaft-hub connection. To create a permanently secure connection, the highly alloyed, hardened steel surfaces are first degreased with WEICON Surface Cleaner. WEICONLOCK AN 306-38 is then applied all around the entire surface before the components are assembled, creating a stable bond even under high radial and axial loads. This procedure increases operational reliability, extends service life and reduces downtime costs in mining and gravel plants.
Repair of conveyor belts at a quartz sand plant
with WEICON Cleaner Spray S, WEICON Belt Repair-Kit and WEICON Contour Spatula Flexy
Quartz sand and fine abrasive particles cause cuts and cracks in conveyor belts, impairing smooth running and reducing service life. For a cost-effective repair, coarse dirt is first removed. The damaged areas are then roughened with an angle grinder (fitted with a rasp or wire wheel) and the surface is cleaned with WEICON Cleaner Spray S. The WEICON Belt Repair-Kit is then used. First, stir WEICON 1K Primer G thoroughly, apply it evenly with a brush and allow sufficient time to flash off (>15 min.). Next, mix and apply WEICON Urethane 85. Finally, smooth the surface using the WEICON Contour Spatula Flexy. The elastic repair extends the service life of the conveyor belts, quickly restores their functionality and remains flexible under impact and abrasion loads.
Repair of agitators in a gold processing plant
with WEICON Cleaner Spray S and WEICON WP
In gold mines, abrasive media such as sand and rock cause significant wear on agitators and propeller blades. Without effective abrasion protection in gold processing, mixing performance decreases and downtime costs increase. For repair work, the components are sandblasted to SA 2½, cleaned with WEICON Cleaner Spray S and then coated with WEICON WP. This creates a wear-resistant protective layer that extends service life, reduces energy consumption and helps maintain productivity in mining operations. The durable coating restores performance, provides long-lasting protection against abrasion and extends service life. This makes it ideal for abrasive media in gold processing.
Repair of the foundations of a conveyor system at a copper mine
with WEICON CBC
Loose machine foundations jeopardise plant safety in mining, while vibrations and impact loads reduce the stability of conveyor systems. For cost-effective repairs, loose sections of the foundation are removed, formwork is installed and WEICON CBC is applied as a chock and backfill compound. Once cured, the formwork is removed. A total of 1,700 kg of WEICON CBC provide a durable, vibration-resistant grouting solution, extend service life and reduce downtime costs at the copper mine.

Repair of a bulk goods conveyor system
with WEICON Cleaner Spray S, WEICON Belt Repair-Kit and WEICON Contour Spatula Flexy
In mining, abrasion, sharp edges and material impact cause surface damage to the rubber of conveyor belts. The WEICON Belt Repair-Kit enables fast repairs without dismantling the belt and reduces downtime costs. After cleaning with WEICON Cleaner Spray S, WEICON 1K Primer G is applied. WEICON Urethane 85 is then applied and neatly smoothed with the WEICON Contour Spatula Flexy, providing durable adhesion and elastic wear protection. The Belt Repair solution usually eliminates the need for vulcanisation and significantly extends service life. It is ideal for conveyor belts in gravel and quartz sand plants.
Impeller repair in a cement factory
with WEICON Cleaner Spray S, WEICON HP, WEICON WPN and WEICON Ceramic HC 220
In cement plants, abrasive raw materials cause significant material loss on impellers. Without effective wear protection, efficiency decreases and maintenance becomes difficult to plan. To carry out the repair, the blades are mechanically cleaned and roughened, then degreased with WEICON Cleaner Spray S. This is followed by wet-on-wet coating: WEICON HP serves as the bonding primer, WEICON WPN fills the worn areas and WEICON Ceramic HC 220 provides the finishing layer for a precise fit (observe the overcoating interval). Finally, the impeller is balanced to ensure reliable operation. The smooth ceramic coating reduces friction, increases conveying capacity and extends service life – an efficient maintenance solution for the cement industry and mining.
Filling the gap on a rotor shaft in a gravel washing plant
with WEICON WR
In gravel plants, play and vibrations in rotor shafts lead to premature wear, loss of performance and unplanned stoppages. To increase stability, in our application example, the 4 mm gap between the inner and outer shafts is filled with WEICON WR, ensuring that no air bubbles are trapped. Threaded holes are prepared at one-metre intervals and connected with hoses and valves. The highly filled epoxy resin system WEICON WR is injected from the bottom up until material emerges from the uppermost hole. In this way, the gap is completely filled and air inclusions are avoided. After 24 hours at room temperature, the gap fill has cured and the gravel plant is ready for operation again. The measure increases shaft rigidity, reduces vibrations and extends service life without the costly replacement of the assembly. The application can be carried out in-house and is ideal for plant engineering in the mining industry.
Maintenance work on the outlet base plate of a hopper
with WEICON Cleaner S, WEICON Surface Cleaner and WEICON WP
Abrasive bulk material places particular strain on the outlet zones of hoppers in mining operations. High flow and impact speeds occur in these areas, shortening maintenance intervals and increasing downtime. To provide long-lasting protection for these critical areas, the base plate is first sandblasted and all dust is thoroughly removed. The surface is then prepared with WEICON Cleaner S or WEICON Surface Cleaner. Next, WEICON WP is applied as a wear protection layer. The layer is compacted and smoothed with PE film to create a homogeneous, dense surface. The coating protects the base material and typically extends the maintenance interval from around three to at least six months. It also reduces downtime costs. Once the protective layer has been worn away, the plate can be quickly recoated – an economical maintenance solution for hoppers, chutes and linings in mining.
Repair of damage to a bucket elevator conveyor belt
with WEICON Cleaner Spray S, WEICON 1K Primer G and WEICON Urethane 85
In conveyor systems in the cement industry, abrasive fine particles and material impact cause localised damage to the rubber belt. If left untreated, this can compromise the embedded tension cords and shorten the service life of the belt. To stabilise the damaged area quickly and reliably, coarse rubber residues are removed. The surface is then roughened with abrasive cloth and cleaned with WEICON Cleaner Spray S. Next, WEICON 1K Primer G is applied to ensure reliable adhesion. WEICON Urethane 85 is then applied and smoothed evenly. The elastic repair protects the cords against corrosion, extends the service life of the belt and reduces downtime costs – an economical repair without dismantling or vulcanisation.
Coating of the cell wheel of a rotary valve in a cement plant
with WEICON Anti-Stick
Fine mineral bulk materials tend to adhere to surfaces in cement plants. Material builds up on the cell wheel of the rotary valve, causing uneven material flow and reducing conveying capacity. To reduce material build-up and extend service life, the stainless steel components (approx. 3.5 m²) are first blast-cleaned, then warmed with a hot-air blower and finally coated with WEICON Anti-Stick in a two-coat system. The non-stick surface reduces friction, prevents material build-up and stabilises throughput. The Anti-Stick system protects the base material, extends service life and ensures efficient, trouble-free operation of the rotary valve.

Repair and coating of a screw conveyor at a copper mine
with WEICON Cleaner Spray S, WEICON HP (primer), WEICON WP and WEICON GL-S
Fine-grained, loose and highly corrosive ores attack screw conveyors. Wear and corrosion reduce conveying capacity and shorten service life. To stabilise the screw conveyor quickly and economically, the protective coating is removed with a grinder and the surface is roughened. The surface is then cleaned with WEICON Cleaner Spray S. WEICON HP is used as a bonding primer. WEICON WP is then applied wet-on-wet, compacted and spread to create a smooth, wear-resistant surface. WEICON GL-S is applied as a finish for visual inspection. The system provides excellent wear protection, enables cost-effective repairs and significantly reduces downtime – ideal for abrasive and corrosive media in mining.
Refurbishment of a large submersible pump
with WEICON Cleaner Spray S, WEICON Rust Converter, WEICON A, WEICON HB 300, WEICON GL and WEICON Ceramic BL
Abrasive media and corrosion attack the cast iron housings of submersible pumps used in mining. Without effective wear protection, efficiency decreases and maintenance frequency increases. For the repair, the pump is cleaned with WEICON Cleaner Spray S, oxides are neutralised with WEICON Rust Converter and larger areas of damage are levelled with WEICON A. After curing, the pump is rebuilt with WEICON HB 300. WEICON GL creates a smooth, media-resistant surface while WEICON Ceramic BL forms the wear-resistant top coat.
The different colours of the systems enable rapid visual wear inspection. Our solution provides excellent wear and corrosion protection, enables a cost-effective, fast and reliable repair and significantly reduces downtime – measurably increasing the efficiency and service life of the pump.
